If you want to have an exciting
travel experience on board the comfortable and well-tended river vessel, m/s
Chekhov is your choice. This ship is one of two, representing the Austrian
project of river cruise-liners, designed as an alternative to the German-made
vessels of project 301 and 302. It favorably differs from them with a higher
cabin standard and innovative design of public areas. M/s Chekhov was built in
1978 and has gone several refurbishments to keep up with standards appropriate
for Western travelers. For many years the ship was traveling along the exotic
route on Yenisey River in Siberia and starting 2004 it will
M/s Chekhov is manned with highly
trained crew and supporting personnel with extensive experience of serving
foreign passengers. This ensures a pleasant and memorable stay on board for
groups and independent travelers.
The guests of the ship have a use of the following facilities: two bars
(one of which has a swimming pool under a sliding glass roof), reading lounge
and lecture room. All cabins are outside with large picture windows, climate
control, private bathrooms and speaker for announcements. Passengers have a
beauty salon, souvenir shop and sauna at their disposal. Laundry and doctor’s
services are also available. The
ship is not equipped with wheelchair access and elevator. The ship do not
have extensive soundproofing so you may hear noise from air-conditioning
and other machinery onboard at any time.

Yaroslavl is situated at the confluence of the Volga and Kotorosl
rivers. It is renowned for its numerous 17th-century churches and is an
outstanding example of the urban planning reform Empress Catherine the Great
ordered for the whole of Russia in 1763. While keeping some of its
significant historic structures, the town was renovated in the neoclassical
style on a radial urban master plan. It has also kept elements from the 16th
century in the Spassky Monastery, one of the oldest in the Upper Volga
region. |

Goritsy is a tiny settlement seven kilometers from the
Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. Visit what remains of the Nunnery of the

real interest in Russian history |

Via the Volga/Baltic canal, our cruise takes us to the tiny island of
Kizhi, located at the northern end of lake Onega. Renowned for its open-air
Museum of Architecture assembled from various areas of the country and
restored to form a glimpse of the past. The Transfiguration Church, with
22 domes, is the ultimate in Russian fairy-tale church architecture. Erected
without a single nail or piece of iron, it was built only by chisel and ax. |

Usupov
Palace Built for the Yussupov family,
which was considered the richest noble family in Russia, the palace is a fine
example of Russian architecture of the 2nd half of the 19th
century. Its facade is executed in the classical style. Its interiors,
including state rooms, palace theatre, private rooms are decorated with the
works by Rembrandt and Rubens, French tapestries and porcelain, Venetian
mirrors and wood carvings. It was in the palace basement that Grigory
Rasputin was assassinated in 1916. |
